Martijn Wijma, geboren te Nieuwegein, studeerde percussie aan de wereldmuziek afdeling van het Rotterdamse Conservatorium. (tegenwoordig \u2018CODARTS\u2019) Daar kreeg hij les van Nils Fisher, Lucas van Merwijk, Dirk Hauptmann en Fred Krens. Tijdens deze studie specialiseerde hij zich in Latijns-Amerikaanse muziek en volgde daar naast percussie ook drum en piano lessen. Na het behalen van zijn diploma in 2006, bleef hij zich naast zijn werk als docent percussie en drum, doorontwikkelen door het volgen van extra lessen van experts op het gebied van percussie, drums en arrangeren. Zo volgende hij o.a. les bij Gerard Teunisse, Fred van Vloten, Peter Doppen, Cindy Ringeling en werd hij uitgenodigd masterclasses te volgen van top percussionisten Chanquito en Orestes Vilato.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Tegenwoordig is Martijn actief als docent percussie en drums aan de Stichting Muziekschool Wijk bij Duurstede.<\/a> Daar geeft hij zowel jongeren als volwassenen percussieles<\/a> en drumles. De laatste jaren focust hij zich ook steeds meer op het coachen van bandjes. Zo coachte hij onder andere een sambaband, verschillende schoolbandjes met als absolute hoogtepunt de Utrechtse salsaband Pimiento.\u00a0<\/a> Verder speelde hij met top salsabands als Axioma, Francisco Pe\u00f1a, Chachachalina en de Braziliaansejazz combo’s S\u00e1bado en Brisa. Naast de muziek is Martijn ook actief in de yoga en geeft op meerdere plekken yoga les.
